ECT Programme – from September 2023

Throughout 2022/23, Three Rivers Teaching School Hub has delivered the ECF full Induction Programme to over 1000 Early Career Teachers and their mentors. A new development and improvement to the ECF programme for this academic year is the contextualisation of conference and clinic materials for all ECTs to make them more relevant and useful. The feedback from this has been overwhelmingly positive and the Hub will now look to add further contextualisation moving forward. Cohorts are now split into Early Years, Primary, Secondary and SEND.

Changes to ECT registration

The DfE is changing the registration process for ECTs. Their systems should be up and running by July 3rd for ECTs to be registered, each school will receive an invite email after this date to complete their registration process. In the meantime, schools can register their ECTs directly with the Teaching School Hub, so that we can provide you with all of the timely induction information.

If you have an ECT commencing with you in September, please complete the registration form found here.

ECT School payments

If your ECTs are currently following a full induction programme (e.g. Ambition led training through the Three rivers TSH) your school will be able to access DfE funding to support mentoring time and backfill for training days. The payment plan is as follows:

DfE Funded provider led programmeTotal funding to schools per ECT employed: £4113.86Each ECT must have a different mentor to maximise this funding.
Breakdown of payment: Payment 1 for mentor time off for training – £856.93 Payment 2 for mentor time off for training – £856.93 ECT Year 2 funding – £1400 Mentor year 2 funding £1000

The funding is paid centrally to Trusts or Local Authorities and split into three payments. The first payment will arrive in July of ECT1 and will be £856.93

You can check that you will receive this payment via the attached database. Funds are paid directly into central trust accounts, so will need to be claimed back by each school.

Please note, the payment is for year 2 mentoring. Mentor time in ECT1 has always been part of the national funding formula for schools. Schools are expected to timetable ECT/mentor meetings. Further information can be found here.

Appropriate Body

In addition to completing the ECF programme, ECTs also need to be registered for statutory induction. Teaching School Hubs are becoming the sole body responsible for this induction of ECTs. From September 2023 all Northumberland schools should register with Three Rivers TSH for their induction. Registration should be completed via an online service called ECT manager – https://threerivers.ectmanager.com/Login.aspx. Local authorities are no longer allowed to act as Appropriate Bodies.

If you have any issues logging into this system, please do not hesitate to contact us at teachingschool.hub@the3rivers.net.
