On the 6th June 2024, the D-Day 80 events will mark 80 years since one of the most significant military operations in history. As part of the celebrations schools are being encouraged to take part in this unique ‘tribute’ to the many thousands of children killed by enemy action and over 1.5 million evacuees, or ‘unattended children’, at 11am on 6th June 2024.

To participate schools are encouraged to read/have read to them the poem on page 17 of this guide. The poem could be read individually, by a teacher/teaching assistant, or a guest could be invited in to lead an assembly. Should schools wish to extend the celebrations the links below may assist in planning.
