Support for NQTs and mentors/tutors

Induction for NQTs is changing from September 2021.

However you will still need an Appropriate Body, so please sign up to the SLA in the usual way if you are expecting NQTs from September.

We will publish full guidance in the coming weeks.

There will be no changes to statutory induction during the first year of early rollout of the Early Career Framework. This means that schools must continue to register with an Appropriate Body (such as Northumberland LA). After one year, NQTs will be assessed against the Teachers’ Standards to determine whether they have passed induction. The Early Career Framework is a two year programme but is not linked to induction.

Details of the Early Career Framework are available here.

If you have any queries or questions about ECF or the Appropriate Body please contact Dave Cookson.

Welcome to Northumberland! We are delighted that you have chosen to start your career with us. With over 150 schools and 40,000 children there are plenty of opportunities to learn from others.

Your school should have signed you up with to the Early Career Framework – you will receive support and professional development through that programme. The Local Authority provide the Appropriate Body function (statutory) and will ensure that your assessment reports are filed with the Teacher Regulation Agency.

If you need any support, advice or guidance please contact Dave Cookson.
