Northumberland Careers Guidance Team

Northumberland County Council has a duty to encourage, enable and assist young people to participate in education or training and has statutory duties to:

  • promote participation in education, employment and training by providing access for vulnerable young people to impartial careers information, advice and guidance (IAG)
  • identify and report to the Department for Education (DfE) on 16 and 17-year-olds who are not participating and support them to find a place in education, employment or training
  • reduce the numbers of young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) or not known

We must also return accurate monthly data to the Department for Education for all 16 to 18-year-olds who are resident in the county.

Further details can be found: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/participation-of-young-people-education-employment-and-training

As part of this, we may need to contact families/carers of young people to identify their engagement with training, education or employment.
