Important message from the Northumberland Public Health Team

Dear Colleagues,

Welcome back to a new term.  Please find attached a message about the 2023/24 National Child Measurement Programme and information from the previous cohort results.

In a change from the historical process where all schools were targeted over a one month period, the measuring of children in Reception and Year 6 will be taking place over a six month period from October to April.  This provides greater capacity and resilience in the teams which support the children who are under/overweight, and provides additional support for partners and communities who are supporting obesity prevention.  The 0-19 Growing Healthy Northumberland Team (previously known as School Nursing) will be contacting schools from September to begin the registration and parental notification process.  The plan is to begin in the West followed by Southeast, Central then North localities.  If you have any questions, please direct them to: hdft.spocnorthumberland@nhs.net

We are also in receipt of individual school NCMP aggregate data over the last 3 years – see attached letter.  This is a useful resource you can use alongside your Health-Related Behaviour Questionnaire (HRBQ) for those schools which took part during 2022/23, to understand further the health profile for your specific locality.  For those keen to access these profiles please contact publichealth@northumberland.gov.uk at your convenience.
