Advice for schools re Storm Eowyn

This is a copy of the email sent to school admin email addresses this afternoon:

The situation has been discussed at a routine Civil Contingencies meeting this afternoon. All council services are prepared and taking a watching brief. This includes following Met Office advice. An amber warning asks travellers and property owners to take extra care. There are no plans to issue any county wide advice or instruction for all schools to close at this time.

As it stands any decision on closure would lie with the Headteacher for that site, based on their own risk assessment – considering weather forecast for their area, location and site-specific risks.

Should the weather warning change to red in your area please follow the advice from the Met Office. You may have no other option than to close the school.

If a school does decide to close they should notify the local authority using this procedure and notify parents using your school comms system.
