The Skills Builder Partnership brings together over 900 schools, colleges, employers and organisations united around a common approach to building eight essential skills. 13 Northumberland schools have taken part over the last 3 years, 4 are involved currently.

The approach is underpinned by the Universal Framework, a rigorous progression framework, which breaks down skills like Teamwork, Listening and Problem Solving into teachable, tangible steps.
The Accelerator is the flagship programme for schools, colleges and specialist settings and applications for 2025-26 programme places are now open.
There are a limited number of fully-funded programme places, and funding is allocated in 3 rounds closing on the 4th April, 23rd May and 4th July.
Developed with 200+ leading organisations, the Accelerator Programme enables schools and colleges to develop a complete strategy for building learners’ essential skills.
At its core, the programme will upskill staff, including on how to best use our online resources and assessment tools. By the end of the first year, you’ll have a sustainable, long-term plan, a team of confident teachers, demonstrable pupil progress and a Skills Builder Award.
In 2024-25, the Accelerator included 300+ leading schools, colleges and specialist settings.
