Myths and Legends: Modern Tales for Everyday Life
The Lit & Phil and Little Inventors are inviting children across the North East to invent new myths and legends for the world of today, inspired by the collections of the library. This year, we will discover how folk tales and legends helped our ancestors and create our own mythical inventions for modern day life.

A fun-filled, cross-curricular programme that will ignite the children’s imagination, stimulate their problem-solving skills and nurture their self-confidence. Please watch our 5min film here which captured our successful pilot programme last year!
How to get involved:
- Open challenge: from 2nd Sept to 16th October, all schools across the North East are invited to take part in our open challenge. We will soon release a resource park with an intro video, teacher power point and printable resources for schools and clubs to run their own drawing and making workshops. All invention ideas submitted on our portal will receive positive feedback and will be in with a chance to be brought to life and showcased at the Lit & Phil this winter!
- Facilitated workshops: For the next 3 years, Little Inventors will host facilitated workshops at the Lit & Phil for schools in the region in October. This year’s slots are currently fully booked but you can email justine@littleinventors.org to be added to the waiting list, or to be the first to know about next year’s workshops!
We would love for schools across Northumberland to take part. Please get in touch with justine@littleinventors.org to be kept abreast of this and future opportunities to get involved with the little inventors programme.
