Poetry Together

On behalf of the Civic and Lieutenancy Officer:

Poetry Together is a simple idea, bringing older people and young people together over poetry, tea and cake!

What happens is that schools, care homes, community groups, churches, Scouts and Guides, and local charities host informal gatherings where young and old connect through reciting and discussing poems. The impact, however, can be profound – particularly in tackling loneliness, social confidence and building stronger community ties across generations. The initiative has attracted support from Queen Camilla, who has attended a number of these events over the years.

You can learn more about the initiative and the impact it has been making across the country and beyond here and read how the project works in schools here.

If you choose to get involved please let Tracy Hollan (Civic and Lieutenancy Officer) know via Tracy.Hollan@northumberland.gov.uk
