Local History Hub – West Northumberland is a teacher-led initiative supporting schools to include local history within the curriculum in practical and manageable ways. There is no cost to participate.
The hub will bring together schools, heritage organisations and community partners to support collaboration, curriculum development and professional networking across the area. The aim is to help children explore the people, places and events that have shaped West Northumberland, strengthening understanding and connection to their local area.
Schools that choose to be involved may:
• Develop links with local heritage sites, museums and community organisations
• Connect with a supportive network of local and national educators
• Share curriculum approaches and resources linked to the region’s history
• Take part in joint activities, including Local History Day 2027 (Wednesday 21st April)
The hub’s Community Lead is Sophie Bell, Learning and Participation Officer at English Heritage, working across sites along Hadrian’s Wall. The Schools Lead is Lee Ferris of Kielder Primary School.
Schools are warmly invited to register interest in joining the developing hub community.”
