Health and Safety Training – Management of School Buildings for School Leaders – New Dates Added 

(This course is mandatory for Headteachers in Community/VC schools and the PRU)

This course was originally delivered in June 2025.  If you have already attended, there is no need to attend again. 

About the course

Specifically designed for Headteachers and other staff who support them to manage school premises.  This concise course will help you to fulfil your legal responsibilities as a duty holder, ensuring a safe and compliant school environment.  The course is available to staff in maintained schools and other schools which are part of Health and Safety SLA.   It will cover:  

  • Duty holder responsibilities under health and safety legislation  
  • Common Building and site issues  
  • Pro-active measures  – Site Checks and Defect Reporting  
  • Contractor health and safety – including the requirements of the Construction, Design and Management (CDM) Regulations  
  • Managing construction and refurbishment activities  
  • Optional Q&A Session at the end of the course  

Who is delivering it?

The course is delivered by Health and Safety Advisors within the NCC Corporate Health and Safety Team.   

Where is it taking place?

To minimise time away from school, the course will be delivered remotely via Microsoft Teams.   

Cost?

It’s free to staff in maintained schools and others signed up to the Health and Safety SLA.    

How long will it last?

Course time of 1 hour 15 minutes, plus optional Q&A at the end of the session.   

Who should attend?

Headteachers.  Also relevant to Business Managers, Site Managers/Caretakers
