Pay and grading update for schools that follow the NCC pay and grading structure

Each of the pay bands at NCC has levels that colleagues progress through with each new financial year (up until they reach the top increment in the band) and these are called spinal column points (SCPs).

As part of the 2025 Local Government Pay Award, it was agreed that spinal column point (SCP) 2 would be removed from the pay spine from this April 2026.

This means that NCC are making changes to pay bands that will benefit colleagues. So, as a result, from 1 April, Band 1 will only have SCP 3 in it and Band 2 will only have SCP 4 within it (SCPs 1 and 2 no longer exist due to them being removed as part of the pay awards).

This means that all colleagues in Band 1 will move to SCP 3 automatically. Most colleagues in Band 2 would have moved to SCP 4 due to their increment on 1 April, but anyone who started after 2 October 2025 will get their increment earlier than they would have normally.

The change looks like this:

What action do I need to take? Please inform any employees on Band 1 and/or Band 2 regarding these changes. There is no requirement for this to be confirmed in writing. This change will be automatically implemented by NCC payroll. If you have a different payroll provider and continue to follow the NCC pay and grading structure please ensure that they are aware of this change so that it can be implemented.
