Important:  Non-Sterile Alcohol Free Wipes

Please see the article below from UKHSA and MHRA around the use of non-sterile alcohol free wipes, following 59 reported cases of Burkholderia stabilis (a type of bacterial infection):

The four products below were recalled from sale and should not be used under any circumstances:

  • ValueAid Alcohol Free Cleansing Wipes
  • Microsafe Moist Wipe Alcohol Free
  • Steroplast Sterowipe Alcohol Free Cleansing Wipes
  • Reliwipe Alcohol Free Cleansing Wipes

Action: Check supplies of any wipes held in school and remove the four products identified above.  Also, check first aid boxes and other medical supplies and dispose of any other type of non-sterile alcohol-free wipes intended to be used for cleaning wounds as part of first aid treatment.  First aiders should clean open wounds, cuts and grazes in line with their training.  If using wipes, only sterile non-alcohol wipes should be used
