Northumberland County Council’s independent travel training programme teaches those with additional needs how to travel independently and safely between home and their school or workplace.

- Young people with additional needs who have an active EHCP and access council commissioned home to school travel
- Need to have the aspiration and ability to learn to travel independently
What will the programme cover?
The programme will be in two stages:
At stage 1, we will gain an understanding of the student’s needs and requirements, assessing their ability to travel independently. Stage 1 will be carried out during the school day, both in the classroom and out in the community.
If the student is successful at stage 1, they will continue to stage 2 of the programme, which will cover route assessment and accompanied travel.
Stage 2 will be carried out, before, during and after school, out in the community.
