The learning team at Stephenson Steam Railway are now taking bookings for onsite school visits from September 2025 onwards.

We have also recently just completed our woodland walk – turning two acres of disused land next to our railway line into a haven for wildlife. The plan of the site so you can see what we have created is here. We also have a brand new workshop which focuses on exploring the history of our site and then visiting the woodland walk to record the flora and fauna of the site. We have created an Early Years workshop which will run from Spring 2026 called ‘Active Explorers’. In this activity, children are encouraged to explore different parts of our outdoor space through active learning and schematic play.
