Learning offer from Stephenson Steam Railway

The learning team at Stephenson Steam Railway are now taking bookings for onsite school visits from September 2025 onwards.

If you are interested in booking a workshop, then you can find information about the Primary and Early Years workshops we are delivering here: School Workshops | Stephenson Steam Railway and can book by contacting us at learning@stephensonsteamrailway.org.uk

We have also recently just completed our woodland walk – turning two acres of disused land next to our railway line into a haven for wildlife. The plan of the site so you can see what we have created is here. We also have a brand new workshop which focuses on exploring the history of our site and then visiting the woodland walk to record the flora and fauna of the site. You can find more about this workshop here: Investigating the local Heritage and Habitat around us | What’s on | Stephenson Steam Railway

We have created an Early Years workshop which will run from Spring 2026 called ‘Active Explorers’. In this activity, children are encouraged to explore different parts of our outdoor space through active learning and schematic play. You can find more information about this workshop here: Active Explorers | What’s on | Stephenson Steam Railway

On our website we also have a number of teaching resources and teaching notes so you and your pupils can prepare yourselves before you visit us. You can find these here: Learning Resources | Stephenson Steam Railway
