Schools workshops at Segedunum Roman Fort and Stephenson Steam Railway

We are writing to let you know that the learning team at Segedunum Roman Fort and Stephenson Steam Railway are now taking bookings for onsite school visits from May 2026 onwards.

If you are interested in booking a workshop, then you can find information about the Roman and Pre-history workshops we are delivering at Segedunum here: Primary Workshops | Segedunum Roman Fort and the workshops we deliver at Stephenson here: Primary Workshops | Stephenson Steam Railway and Early Years | Stephenson Steam Railway

You can book by contacting us at learning@segedunumromanfort.org.ukor learning@stephensonsteamrailway.org.uk

At Stephenson Steam Railway, we have recently developed a woodland walk- turning two acres of disused land next to our railway line into a haven for wildlife. Attached is a plan of the site so you can see what we have created here. We also have a brand new workshop which focuses on exploring the history of our site and then visiting the woodland walk to record the flora and fauna of the site. You can find more about this workshop here: Investigating the local Heritage and Habitat around us | What’s on | Stephenson Steam Railway

At Segedunum Roman Fort, we have a new exhibition entitled Following the Eagle. This exhibition showcases rare Roman military diplomas inscribed on bronze, alongside other archaeological artefacts, exploring themes of identity, service, and travel within the Roman army. More information about this exhibition can be found here: Following the Eagle | What’s on | Segedunum Roman Fort

On both of our website we also have a number of teaching resources, teaching notes and videos of some of our museum collections so you and your pupils can prepare yourselves before you visit us. You can find these here: Learning resources | Segedunum Roman Fort and Learning Resources | Stephenson Steam Railway
