Safer Recruitment Training – autumn term

Recruiting the right people is one of the most important safeguarding responsibilities a school has.

A statutory requirement

Schools must ensure that at least one person on any appointment panel has undertaken safer recruitment training. Having a good number of appropriately trained staff, leaders and governors gives schools greater flexibility when forming recruitment panels and helps embed safer recruitment practice throughout the organisation.

Why choose our face-to-face training?

Our full-day programme follows the Safer Recruitment Consortium model, delivered by trainers registered through the Lucy Faithfull Foundation, and provides a consistent national minimum standard of good practice for organisations recruiting people to work with children.

Face-to-face delivery gives delegates the opportunity to:

  • Work through practical recruitment scenarios and exercises and apply learning to real situations.
  • Discuss, question and challenge alongside colleagues from other schools.
  • Build confidence in professional judgement and safer recruitment decision-making.
  • Develop a consistent and robust approach to recruitment and selection.
  • Understand how safer recruitment contributes to an ongoing culture of vigilance.

Training dates

Safer Recruitment Training – full course
Friday 6 November 2026 (all day)
County Hall, Morpeth

Safer Recruitment Refresher Session
Monday 7 December 2026 (afternoon)
County Hall, Morpeth

To attend the refresher session, delegates must previously have completed the full Lucy Faithfull Foundation/Safer Recruitment Consortium training.

There is no DfE-prescribed timeframe for repeating safer recruitment training. As a matter of good practice, schools may wish to consider refreshing knowledge periodically to ensure practice remains current.  This is generally viewed as between 3 – 5 years.

Can’t make these dates?

Further sessions will be planned for the spring term, subject to levels of interest. Schools are encouraged to register their interest in either full course or refresher training to help us to plan future provision.
