A reminder about the value of our free training offer…
We have recently had 11 practitioners not attend our free Makaton training sessions. As each course is limited to 11 places, this effectively means that an entire session has been lost.
While the training is offered free of charge to practitioners, it is funded by our team to support and enhance Communication and Language development across the county. The cost of these 11 unused places amounts to £1,089.
We also know that many of our courses have waiting lists, meaning that these places could have been offered to other practitioners who were keen to attend.
We understand that unexpected circumstances can arise. However, if you are no longer able to attend a booked session, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can offer your place to someone else.

ACAS Update
The law is changing on flexible working
Acas has launched a consultation on updates to its existing Code of Practice on requests for flexible working to reflect upcoming law changes and encourage good practice. Find out more
The Employment Rights Act 2025 will introduce new changes to the law that employers must follow if employees request flexible working. If employers are considering rejecting a request, they will have to follow a new process to first consult with their employee. An employer can only then reject a request if it is reasonable to do so.
A recent Acas survey found that nearly 8 in 10 employees (78%) said that flexible working was important in a job. The YouGov poll asked employees about the importance of flexible working in a job and only 20% said it was not important.
