Evaluation of School Fruit &Veg Scheme

Be Part of a National Study – Limited Places!

Invitation to Partner in a National Study on Children’s Health and Nutrition

We are delighted to invite you to take part in an important school‑focused research project evaluating the government’s Free School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme and its direct impact on pupils’ food intake and nutrition. This study is funded by the National Institute for Health Research.

Our focus will be on Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 classes.

Why partner with us?

  • Have your say: Share feedback on the scheme and help shape future policy recommendations.
  • School benefits: A total payment of £250 for your school (across two years) and a certificate recognising your partnership in this vital national study, plus £10 vouchers & prize draw entry (£200, £100 and £50) for all participating parents.
  • Minimal time commitment: Around 2–3 days in school over two years, with two main days focused on observational data collection – we do all the groundwork.
  • Activities include: Assisting with informing and recruiting parents, and completing a short headteacher/staff survey.
  • Flexible scheduling: Data collection will be arranged on dates that work best for you between February and July, ensuring minimal disruption to your school timetable.
  • Optional: Selected schools may participate in additional research (staff interviews, parent and child focus groups). If interested, an extra £150  payment is available for your school. Parents will also receive an additional £10 voucher for taking part.

This is a unique chance for your school to contribute to high‑quality data that will inform national policy and support improvements in children’s health across the country. If you’re interested, we would welcome the opportunity to tell you more. We are happy to arrange a short Teams meeting or phone call at your convenience.
