School age immunisations

The School Age Immunisation Team will deliver flu vaccines (both nasal and injectable form) from September to December 2025.

You will have received your session date and a request for an up to date class list via an email to school.

Please could you ensure that your return is sent to the team as soon as possible.

If your local community is experiencing digital poverty, we are more than happy to work with yourselves and send some nurses into help families complete the forms. Please call the team if this is something you think your families will benefit from.

We will send school the link for the vaccination consent form alongside the information posters and the link to the Immunisation Team Website, where families will find all the information to help them decide if they wish to consent for their child’s vaccination.

We would be grateful if schools would send polite reminders and the consent link again to families who have not completed a consent form (or non-consent form), under our guidance (our team will send a list to schools of those children and young people whose families have not returned a form).

Parents that don't respond can then be contacted directly to ascertain their wishes, given health advice or a more suitable venue arranged.

The School Age Immunisation Team have a total of 498 schools with 140,000 children across Northumberland, North Tyneside, Gateshead & Newcastle  to target. Your help with swift responses means the team can better protect the children and the local community, and reduce the risk of staff being affected by the transmission of flu in their classrooms.

We will also pilot offering nasal flu to the nursery children in Northumberland primary schools.  It is hoped that offering the protection to 2-3 year olds in a convenient setting may well increae overall uptake in the county.

You will be asked to provide nursery lists in the same way you have previously provided class lists so the team can begin to contact families to gain consent.

If you would like staff to attend parent’s evenings to share information or help with consent forms, or to do assemblies or do a presentation in classes during PHSE or health weeks, regarding the importance of vaccinations, please let the team know.

Every school will have a named nurse. Our admin team will link in with your admin to send dates of vaccination sessions and request class lists and Risk assessments of the rooms the staff will use. Your named nurses will link in with your designated immunisation team link member to help with advice and support for vaccination sessions.
