Whole School Approaches to Promoting Emotional Health and Wellbeing – A Good Practice Guide

FAO: All Headteachers

We are delighted to circulate here a suite of 3 documents which have been coproduced with Designated Mental Health Leads from across the County, designed to support Northumberland Schools with developing and ensuring a ‘thriving’ school, in the broadest sense. The guide is framed around the eight principles which underpin a good whole school approach as described in the Government guidance produced by NHS England in 2015, Promoting Children and Young People’s Emotional Health and Wellbeing. It contains a wealth of ideas and suggestions, resources and case studies collected by the schools and the local area Mental Health services. Here you will find the Good Practice Guide, here is an editable Emotionally Healthy Schools Checklist to sit alongside, and here is a useful document entitled ‘Guidance for Schools Around Quality Assurance When Commissioning External Support’. If you prefer google doc versions of the Checklist, please contact: nicola.taylor@northumberland.gov.uk

Many thanks to the 27 schools who have been involved in this exciting project.
