Dear colleague,
Due to the popularity and high demand for places on the above named training course, the early years team are now able to offer an additional session to allow those practitioners on the waiting list to attend as well any other practitioners wishing to benefit from this training. The additional date set for this training course is Thursday 15th March at Morpeth Golf Club.
Schools will also be aware that Ofsted have recently published the document ‘Bold Beginnings’ which reports on the reception curriculum in successful schools and how well it prepares 4 and 5 year olds for the rest of their education and beyond. Specifically, the report identifies that “teaching of early mathematics was not given the same priority”… and that good practice in maths is ensured through the use of “practical equipment to support children’s grasps of numbers and, importantly, to develop their understanding of linking concrete experience with visual and symbolic representations”.
The course ‘Uncovering the Inner Mathematician’ addresses the recommendations in this report in relation to mathematics. In light of this, reception teachers in particular would benefit from attending. Further information about this training course can be found in the Early Years Training Programme.
Spaces on this additional session are limited and will be offered on a first come first served basis so please book your place asap to avoid disappointment.
Please contact Lesley Kelly on 01670 622739 Lesley.Kelly@northumberland.gov.uk to book your place.
Kind regards,
The Early Years Team
