Key Stage 2 results

The results of Key Stage 2 assessments were released to schools this week along with national statistics showing that 61% of pupils met the expected standard in reading, writing and maths combined, up slightly from 60% in 2023, but still below 2019 when 65% of pupils reached the expected standard.

Further 2024 headlines are as follows:

  • In reading, 74% of pupils met the expected standard, up from 73% in 2023.
  • In maths, 73% of pupils met the expected standard, unchanged since 2023.
  • In writing, 72% of pupils met the expected standard, up from 71% in 2023.
  • In grammar, punctuation and spelling, 72% of pupils met the expected standard, unchanged since 2023.

Key Stage 2 scaled score conversion tables were also published this week.

A more detailed analysis, to include the disadvantage gap index and pupil groups, including gender, will be published by the DfE in early September.

Also note there will be no progress data for primary schools this year and next year (2024/5).
