Growing Up in Northumberland

Young people with special education needs growing up in Northumberland can now access advice and guidance to help them get prepared for the next stage in their lives. 

The SEND Code of Practice introduces Preparation for Adulthood reviews and states that the local authority must ensure the EHCP Plan review in year 9 includes a focus on preparation for adulthood. Employment, Independent Living, Community Inclusion and Health are the four main outcome areas identified.  

The Local Offer provides children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities and their families information about what support services are available in their local area’ Preparation for Adulthood forms part of this offer and a ‘Growing Up in Northumberland’ guide has been created to support children, young people, families, carers and professionals when considering Preparation for Adulthood and/or Transitions and the areas which need to be considered.
