We’ve an increasing number of pupils who identify as being uncomfortable with the gender assigned to them at birth.
There are two online resources to support schools in finding helpful resources online. The first summarises film clips and TV content online that will help staff understand the issues that affect young people whose gender is different to that assigned to them at birth.
The second has links to the most useful web sites and resources for schools, young people and their parents. This includes the recently launched new web site for the NHS Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS). GIDS take referrals from professionals supporting children and young people uncomfortable with the gender assigned to them at birth. You will find information about how to make a referral on the web site.
If you’d like support to introduce staff to these resources or any of the themes they cover, or are working with a young person who may need more support please contact Gill.Finch@northumberland.gov.
