Unlocking Opportunities is a practical online training course to help schools to meet their Equality Act duties and remove barriers to education for disabled learners. Developed jointly by the Equality and Human Rights Commission and Liverpool John Moore’s University. The resource explains what schools are required to do under the Equality Act 2010 for disabled learners. It includes videos, case studies and exemplar materials with practical examples of ways to include disabled learners in curricular and extra-curricular activities.
The resource also has several specific modules that address different areas of provision for disabled learners. Depending on your role and areas of work, you can decide which suit your particular development needs
- Each module takes 20-30 minutes to complete, and a certificate is available once a level has been passed.
Any school refreshing their accessibility plan can incorporate plans for the training to be completed as an objective to help make the curriculum and the building more accessible.
