As expected, many of this month’s reports continue to focus on COVID-19
with researchers looking at the ongoing impact of the pandemic on
apprenticeships, university access, student finance, and the attainment
gap. A report by the Institute for Fiscal Studies looks at pupil
learning during the lockdown from a parent perspective, and another
from NFER explores a similar issue through the lens of teachers.
Five of this month’s reports are not COVID-19 related. There is a
curricular focus on maths this month with a report from the Nuffield
Foundation looking at low attainment at Key Stage 3. The NFER presents
its annual report on the teacher labour market with some news which is
encouraging and other news which is less so. Also worth highlighting is
a report from the Education Endowment Foundation on metacognition and
self-regulated learning; if you are still not completely clear what
they are, this summary will help!
