I am pleased to enclose the final batch of summaries for 2020. There is
perhaps a synergy between the start of the vaccination programme and
the fact that none of the summaries this month are solely focussed on

summaries. How are schools addressing the workload associated with
target-setting? Which types of intervention are most effective in
changing girls’ attitudes towards STEM subjects? How do England’s
pupils compare globally in terms of mathematics and science
This month saw the publication of Ofsted’s Annual Inspection report –
interesting to see how settings have performed under the new Education
Inspection Framework. Lots of good news in some areas such as early
reading and the progress of ‘stuck schools’ – fewer positive findings
about SEND provision. This year, I have produced two separate reports –
one focussed on the inspection data and the other on the Chief
Some interesting reports for senior leaders this month including
research into flexible working practices in schools and a report from
Ofqual about how standards are maintained following examination reform.
