On 15 May the government launched a consultation on proposed changes to the Teachers’ Pensions regulations. Head teachers are asked to consider taking part in the consultation on behalf of the School employer and making their teaching staff aware. We will provide a response on behalf of Schools in Northumberland/ the Authority.
The government is seeking views on the following proposals:
- to provide civil partners and same-sex spouses with the same survivor pension rights as widows (in line with the Walker v Innospec Ltd case)
- to remove the nomination form requirement for unmarried partner benefits (in line with the case of Brewster v Northern Ireland Local Government Officers’ Superannuation Committee)
- and on other minor amendments.
The consultation closes on 25 June.
