New guidance for professionals working in the Northumberland local area was launched on 6 July with schools at the ‘Spotlight on SEND’ conference held at the Holiday Inn, Seaton Burn.
The guidance includes information about special education needs support in schools, including the new Northumberland Graduated Approach Guidance, new referral forms for schools and settings to use when requesting statutory assessments for learners with high needs, contact details of services and support available to schools.
It aims to support Special Education Needs Coordinators (SENCos) and others to fulfill their roles in meeting the needs of children with SEND. This includes identifying, planning, monitoring and reviewing the needs of learners with SEND, and supporting their progress making the best use of resources. Schools can use the guidance to help bring together all the information required to get a more detailed picture of a child’s needs.
The LA have worked with schools, parents and carers via the ‘In it Together’ parent/carer forum, and other partners to coproduce the guidance and related documentation.
It is available on the education and schools pages of the Northumberland Local Offer website at www.northumberland.gov.uk/senguide. Thank you to everyone who has helped develop the guidance.
