The DWP initiative is intended to assist schools to deliver their statutory duty to provide high quality, independent and impartial careers advice to pupils in years 7 to 13 in line with the current DfE careers strategy. DWP aim to help young people make an effective transition from school to work, training or further study by providing schools with support in careers education. There is no charge for this service and the support is demand-led by schools, and is designed to complement existing careers provision in schools. DWP will work directly with pupils, particularly with those schools who feel may be in danger of becoming NEET. They can also up-skill teachers by providing up-to-date information on the local labour market and apprenticeship opportunities; and speak to parents at school events.
